About Owl Tree

Hi, I’m Mrs. S, the creator of Owl Tree Montessori! I have been teaching in Montessori schools and classrooms of all age levels for 20+ years. I am both traditionally and Montessori trained. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Language Arts and a 6-9 Montessori elementary certificate through the American Montessori Society (AMS).

Owl Tree Montessori is about sharing my love of teaching and providing practical application of the Montessori method to benefit your children and students whether you are:

  • a parent homeschooling your child
  • a parent looking for ways to supplement, or enhance education for your child
  • a teacher in a traditional school desiring to differentiate learning, teach the “whole child” and find well-designed manipulative materials with effective lessons to enhance your teaching
  • a teacher in a small private school wanting curriculum and lesson support
  • a tutor looking for ideas to use with clients

I started my diverse career in a beautiful, authentic Montessori school where I found mentorship and guidance. I fell in love with the Montessori philosophy of teaching. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I met my husband and achieved my long-time dream of Montessori training and certification. With my newfound certification status and passion for instilling a love of learning in children, I started the elementary program at a small Montessori school. The program was underfunded and I was often left to struggle on my own, but mentorship and guidance from my Montessori training supervisor helped me succeed in my goal of creating a successful elementary program. Looking for a more supportive environment and a place to grow in my skills and career, I joined my mentor at her school and enjoyed the support of a full teaching team and the pleasant hum of a school with 30+ years of strong leadership. The birth of my children and a long daily commute led me to the difficult decision to leave my teaching post there. I began homeschooling with Montessori for the preschool years and found joy in teaching at home. Soon after, I was contacted by a woman looking for a mentor of her own as she finished her Montessori training and opened her own Montessori school. I joined her in the elementary 6-12 classroom helping her shape the program, curriculum, and classroom. This time I was the mentor and the perspective afforded me new learning opportunities in my own teaching while also giving me the satisfaction of passing on my love of teaching and collected experience. A life shift that coincided with the pandemic led me to homeschool my children relying heavily on my Montessori training and experience.

I have been fortunate to find incredible mentors to help me along my teaching journey. It is my pleasure to offer you mentorship, guidance, and encouragement wherever you are on your journey!
